Australia has added Serbia to the list of countries that are a priority for the commencement of negotiations to finalise an agreement on the matter of social security. According to an announcement by the Serbian Embassy in Canberra, at a meeting held on the 11th of December at the Ministry which is supervising social agreements: Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Mrs Michalina Stawyskyj, director of the department for international agreements informed the Serbian Ambassador that talks will begin in 2013. Written confirmation of the decision of the Government of Australia is in this attachment.

The confirmation agreement regarding social security will solve the existing issues in the sectors of pensions and social security for tens of thousands of Australian residents with a Serbian background.

The initiative for the formation of this agreement was sent to Australian officials by a letter from the Ministry for Employment in 2008. The decision of the Australian body to begin negotiations was absent up until now, says the announcement by the Serbian Embassy in Canberra.
